DANCE MOVEMENT THERAPIST &
VISUAL ARTIST
Deniz Beren Akural is a contemporary artist and developing Dance Movement Therapist working at the intersection of embodiment, creative expression, and community practice.
Rooted in circus arts, their work is shaped by presence, improvisation, and expressive dialogue beyond words. Their artistic practice emerges from a poetic relationship with the body, informed by contact improvisation and spinal research. These somatic practices bring together body awareness, emotional processing, and creative exploration, supporting a deeper understanding of lived experience through movement. Their work moves fluidly between therapy, movement research, and contemporary artistic practice, focusing on embodiment as a tool for reflection, healing, and expression.
Alongside individual artistic and therapeutic work, Deniz Beren Akural works within community-based and socially engaged projects. They are part of Woven To Us, a social art platform that develops participatory projects that use dance, movement, and creative expression to foster inclusion, belonging, and collective care.
